Meet The Baldwins
Meet our Sierra Moon owners, Brad and Shawn Baldwin. Learn more about Brad's transition into becoming a Goldsmith and of all the "hats" Shawn wears, which is her favorite.
Brad and Shawn Baldwin:
What has been the most rewarding part of owning Sierra Moon?
It has been most special for us to run a business and show our children what it means to put in hard work and give back to our community. Plus we both ADORE jewelry and it is our absolute pleasure to work with it everyday!
When prior owners John Lynch & Linda Pierce contacted you to purchase Sierra Moon what were your initial thoughts?
We knew immediately that if we didn’t do it, we would regret it forever!
What's one of the most valuable lessons you have learned as a business owner so far?
That it is not only important to think outside the box, it’s essential. When Covid hit, we had only owned the business for two years. The pandemic really accelerated our learning curve and we are both very grateful for that.
More about Shawn:
Of all the "hats" you wear owning a small business, which one is your favorite role?
That is such a great question, and it really does change every day, which is why I love owning a business so much. It keeps things fresh. I really love working one-on-one with the team members, offering coaching on design and customer service. But my real love is continually improving the look and energy of the store aesthetics and offerings. The “how you feel” when you walk in. I guess that comes from my art gallery management days!
What is your favorite thing that has happened last year at Sierra Moon?
Where do I start!? I have been able to build a magical team here at the shop. We have a talented Client Service team, a Master Goldsmith, and Store Manager. And we just recently added a Marketing Coordinator! In addition to this dynamic crew, I attend two incredible trade shows in both Dallas and Chicago, and brought back a number of new lines that I am so excited to unveil!
What do you look forward to/have planned for Sierra Moon in the coming year?
We are in the verge of launching a new website that has an AWESOME Custom Jewelry Builder. I could NOT be more excited about this new feature. Plus, we’ll start being able to provide financing for our clients. Coming soon, this holiday season!
More about Brad:
Share how you came to be a goldsmith for Sierra Moon?
I am a maker. At Chico State, I received my degree in Product Design. Keeping my hands busy is the key to my happiness. While working as a Scientific Glassblower for eight years, I always thought how cool it could be to be a goldsmith. Transitioning trades was no easy task, but I wouldn’t trade this seat at my bench for anything.
What do you enjoy most about being a goldsmith?
I love the metal. I love the diversity of projects, such as fixing family heirlooms and repairing wonderful works of art.
What is your favorite thing that has happened last year at Sierra Moon?
The diversity of challenges every day has really kept me showing up with positivity and motivation. There really is no such thing as a dull moment in our industry. But delegating and building our wonderful team has been the most rewarding and freeing thing I could ever dream of.
